Southern California Fills the Boot
May 4, 2009— The Southern California Regional Division of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) launched its Fill-The-Boot campaign at
United Fire Fighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) Local 112’s Station 81 on April
17. Local 112 President Patrick McOsker, Los Angeles Councilman Tony Cardenas
and MDA California State Goodwill Ambassador Jordon Balla were on hand at the
kick-off.
“Our members are really motivated to make this year bigger than
ever,” says McOsker. “We have 16 battalions around the city and all of them are
playing a crucial role. If all goes well, we should break $200,000,
well-exceeding last year’s total of more than $160,000.”
In the days following the kick-off, Local 112 members filled the
boot throughout the city and at one of the Lakers’ basketball games. “We have
been impressed with how, even in these tough economic times, the public is still
willing to support their fire fighters and important causes like MDA,” says
McOsker.
Other Fill-the-Boot campaigns are planned through May and June.
