September 19, 2008- Captain David Lopez was presented the first Los Angeles County Local 1014 Humanitarian Award by Local 1014 President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive board for his work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Captain Lopez has worked as the MDA liaison for six years, planning the department-wide Fill the Boot event that has raised a combined total of more than $2 million in honor of his cousin who is currently living with ALS.

Lopez’ support of MDA reaches past the annual boot drive. He has actively participated in annual Boot Camps, providing training and motivation to other IAFF affiliates throughout California. He has worked MDA educational seminars to prepare families living with neuromuscular disease in the event of 9-1-1 calls.
