Colorado Springs Shatters Previous Record
September 11, 2007 - Colorado Springs, CO Local 5
held a six day spectacular
Fill-the-Boot event Wednesday, August 29, through Monday, September 3, raising a total of $124,834.
This
shattered their previous year total of $105,000. The Colorado Springs Fire Department
set a goal this year to raise $110,000 after having a recording setting year in
2006 not knowing they would surpass their previous record and then some.
With the generosity of the Colorado Springs community
and other fundraisers throughout the year such as the Fire Chief
Ale Promotion at Rock Bottom Brewery and the Colorado Springs
Local 5 Chili Cook Off, the Colorado Springs Fire Department
raised $138,362.
Money raised goes toward treatment, research, and support groups for the 400 children and adults in Southern Colorado who are living with neuromuscular diseases. MDA is a voluntary health agency that provides free services such as physical therapy, vaccinations, assistance in the purchase of wheelchairs, and two great weeks of MDA summer camp in Empire, Colorado. Most importantly, MDA funds research worldwide to find cures to the 43 neuromuscular diseases that MDA covers.
