Cheyenne Wins Trophy; Poudre Gets the
Ladder
March
22, 2007 - At the IAFF Fill-the-Boot Camp in Colorado
Springs, Colorado, last year, Poudre Fire Authority, CO
Local 1945 challenged Cheyenne, WY Local 279 to raise the
most through Fill-the-Boot in September.
Poudre Fire Authority Local 1945 member Gino
Maccarini said, “I was actually surprised that [Cheyenne]
had a trophy case.” He adds, “I didn’t know that one third
place trophy was deserving of a whole trophy case, but more
power to them.”
After
this bold statement, Cheyenne fire fighters became more
determined than ever to beat Poudre Local 1945. Cheyenne
suggested a wager in which Poudre fire fighters would have
to wash Cheyenne’s Ladder One if they lost. Poudre accepted
the challenge, promising to “win the MDA Border War Trophy
so that we can give our Cheyenne friends the opportunity to
put their hands on a ‘real’ ladder truck.”
After the cash was counted following the
Labor Day Fill-the-Boot drive, Cheyenne fire fighters had
raised $27,001, while Poudre collected $17,177. Poudre local
members arrived in Cheyenne February 4, 2007, to make good
on their wager.
