Perrysburg Members Brave Bad Weather

Perrysburg Township, OH Local 4170 filled the boot November 24, 2006. The foggy day after Thanksgiving did not stop these fire fighters from collecting $2,000 for Jerry’s Kids in just four hours.


Newton Fire Fighters Conduct Boot Drive

Newton, IA Local 1457’s Fill-the-Boot campaign raised $1,084 for MDA in its second year. Local 1457 President Tom Richmond and MDA District Director Denise Kinkade (with fire fighters) presented a check on November 27, 2006.


South Beach Fire Fighters Increase Total

Congratulations to the South Beach, WA Local 3689 fire fighters and their families and friends who contributed their time and effort to this year’s MDA Fill-the-Boot drive. Fire fighters collected $3,256, nearly 50 percent more than last year. Local 3689 member David Bell even sold the shirt off his back for a $20 donation to MDA.


Dupont and Fort Lewis Members Hold Boot Drive

During a three-day Fill-the-Boot drive, Dupont, WA Local 3829 fire fighters and Fort Lewis, WA Local F-283 members raised $11,980 for MDA. IAFF brothers and sisters collected for almost 20 hours at two intersections. Thanks to the enthusiastic crew of Local 3829 and Local F-283 members who danced for dollars and did pushups for $20.


West Covina Fire Fighters Hit the Streets

West Covina, CA Local 3226 raised more than $4,000 in its first Fill-the-Boot drive.


Santa Fe Springs Fire Fighters Raise $30,000

Santa Fe Springs, CA Local 3507 set a record, raising nearly $30,000 during its three-day Fill-the-Boot drive. Local 3507 member Mike Yule and fellow fire fighters made a check presentation during the local broadcast of the 2006 Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. Canfield, OH Local 4507 Fire Fighters Assist MDA

Canfield, OH Local 4507 members with Kate Forster (in turnout gear) and Ohio MDA ambassador Matthew Wittman (in wheelchair), along with his younger brother Garret Wittman (wearing fire helmet) and their mother Amy Wittman at a pizza party at a Canfield fire station. Matthew and Garrett were appointed honorary fire fighters for the Cardinal Joint Fire District in Canfield, Ohio.


Vail, CO Members Run for MDA

Vail, CO Local 4138 fire fighter Bryan Cash (pictured) with MDA Goodwill Ambassador Mackenzie Matarozzo joined Local 4138 members Jeff Biggs, Nick Sandstrom and Mike Orin to run the 2006 inaugural Denver Marathon, raising more than $2,000 for MDA.


Port St. Lucie Fire Fighters on Telethon

Port St. Lucie, Florida, area professional fire fighters make check presentations during the local broadcast of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. Local representatives participating include Saint Lucie County, FL Local 1377 member Al Votinelli (with a check of $55,500); Okeechobee, FL Local 2918 member Karl Holtkamp (with a check of $18,373); and Stuart, FL Local 2411 member Brian Nethers (with a check of $16,512).


LaVerne Fire Fighters Raise $11,000

LaVerne, CA Local 3624 raised more than $11,000 in just one day during its Fill-the-Boot campaign.


Gainesville Fire Fighters Collect $16,500

Bowling Green Fire Fighters Raise Money for MDA

Bowling Green, KY Local 927 has never missed filling the boot on Labor Day weekend in 28 years. Fire fighters have raised more than $19,182 to date and plan to conduct up to three additional fundraisers in the coming months.


San Marcos Members Fill the Boot

Members of San Marcos, CA Local 4184 filled their boots for Jerry’s Kids, raising more than $7,500. Local 4184 fire fighter Mike Vasile, whose brother Cole Vasile suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, coordinated the Fill-the-Boot drive.


Palm Beach County Fill the Boot Raises $181,612

Palm Beach County, FL Local 2928 fire fighters in Lake Worth, Florida, with Palm Beach MDA Goodwill Ambassador David Kirby. In addition to raising money, Local 2928 members spent time visiting with Kirby and his family.


We Will Help Florida Be Number One

Fire fighters from Miami, Metro Dade and Key Biscayne, Florida, conducted the 52nd annual Fill-the-Boot drive.


Howland, OH Local Returns for Jerry’s Kids

MDA thanks Howland, OH Local 2786 for filling the boot for MDA. Local 2786 fire fighter and MDA Coordinator Jim Williamson and his team of Howland fire fighters (from left) Joe McCleery, Lance Blair, Hank Wingard and Dan Morgan with MDA clients (from left) Alexis Lux, Melissa Shreffler and Kate Forster.


Columbia Fire Fighters Raise $124,824

Columbia, SC Local 793 fire fighters raised money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association August 23-25, raising $124,824 over the three-day event. Local 793 also raised $3,600 through a golf outing to bring Columbia Local 793’s 2006 totals to 128,424.


North Shore Members Begin Fundraising

North Shore, WI Local 1440 started its fundraising one week early, raising more than $5,000 in August. Local 1440 members fill the boot again during Labor Day weekend with a goal to collect more than $16,000 for MDA.


Montesano and Grays Harbor Increase Total

Montesano, WA Local 1826 and Grays Harbor #2, WA Local 4258 fire fighters conducted their Fill-the-Boot campaign, raising a record-breaking $4,876, $1,000 more than last year.


Birmingham Fire Fighters Collect for MDA

Birmingham, AL Local 117 has collected more than $9,250 for MDA this year.


California Locals Holds Fill-the-Boot Drive

Norco, CA Local 3806 held its Fill-the-Boot drive, raising more than $8,530 in just one day. Norco City Council Member Harvey Sullivan and City Mayor Kathy Azenedo participated with Local 3806 fire fighters, along with Norco citizen and MDA client family member Christopher Enochs and his parents and sister.


Corona Fire Fighters Raise Money for MDA

New Corona, CA Local 3757 MDA Coordinator Rob Wiedensohler and his team of fire fighter hit the streets of Corona to Fill the Boot, raising $9,162. Local 3757 President Jim Stiner personally thanked all local members for their time and support.


Alhambra Local Raises $20,000

Alhambra, CA Local 1578 fire fighters raised more than $20,000 for Jerry’s Kids June 10-11, 2006 in their second Fill-the-Boot campaign in honor of former MDA Goodwill Ambassador Mattie Stepanek. Local 1578 President Bob D’Ausilio worked closely with the city to coordinate the event at major intersections of the city.


Marysville Local Exceeds All Expectations

An extra day of filling the boot more than doubles the collection figures for Marysville, WA Local 3219. Fire fighters collected a total of $20,165 -- $12,000 more than last year’s total of $7,542 – raised from a one-day boot drive.


El Paso Fire Fighters Donate Time

El Paso, TX Local 51 members donated an entire week of personal time to serve as camp counselors for 50 children at New Mexico Tech Summer Camp 2006 in Socorro, New Mexico. Campers enjoyed swimming, canoeing, fishing, bingo, arts and crafts, outdoor movies, dancing and karaoke.


Bolingbrook Local Raises More Than $7,600

Bolingbrook, IL Local 3005 conducted its annual Fill-the-Boot campaign to benefit MDA August 11-12, 2006. Fire fighters collected more than $7,600 for local MDA families. Gilroy Fire Fighters Hold Successful Boot Drive

Two Rivers Local 423 Raises $12,000 for MDA

The Two Rivers, WI Local 423 collected more than $12,000 for MDA through its 12th Annual Bowl-a-thon and the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy Mobile Program. The bowl was held at Rudy’s Lanes in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Two Rivers Local 423 was again one of the top fundraising locals for MDA in Wisconsin. Fairfax County Members Enjoy Summer Camp


Fairfax County, VA Local 2068 fire fighters, along with Fairfax County Fire Chief Michael Neuhard, enjoyed their time at the 2006 MDA Camp in Leonardtown, Maryland, June 30. Local 2068 fire fighters provided popular entertainment and took kids for a ride in a fire engine and ambulance. Fire fighters and the fire chief also grilled and served hamburgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs.


Des Moines Fire Fighters Fill the Boot

Des Moines, IA Local 4 raised $735 for MDA in a recent Fill-the-Boot campaign.


Kissimmee Fire Fighters Cross the Mark

Kissimmee, FL Local 4208 fire fighters surpassed their goal and collected $45,000 for Jerry’s Kids this year. Local 4208 members will conduct a fall Fill-the-Boot drive in August and September.


Hamilton County Fills the Boot for Jerry’s Kids

Members of Hamilton County, IN Local 4416 began their fourth year of Fill-the-Boot in July. Fire fighters collected $6,700 for MDA. Local 4416 members will continue their fundraising efforts in 2006 by hosting a Poker Run and Tent Party on September 2, 2006.


Thank You Little Rock Fire Fighters

Little Rock, AR Local 34 raised $6,000 during its Fill-the-Boot campaign. MDA thanks Local 34 President Richard Morehead for coordinating the 2006 boot drive.


MDA Congratulates Sapulpa Members

Sapulpa, OK Local 194 conducted its Fill-the-Boot campaign, collecting more than $8,500 for Jerry’s Kids. Fire fighters increased their boot drive total by $5,000 over last year. “Our department is proud to continue supporting the local chapter of MDA and the families it serves in Eastern Oklahoma,” says Local 194 President Kevin Lawson (far right). “After meeting a local Sapulpa family that receives assistance from MDA, I think the fire fighters were motivated to raise as much money as possible for MDA.”


Fayetteville Local 2866 Number 1 in Arkansas

During the recent Arkansas Professional Fire Fighters Convention, Fayetteville, AR Local 2866 members (from left) Jeremy Ashley, Dean Matthews, Amy Bailey, Trent North, and Dave Welch accepted the Top Arkansas Fill-the-Boot Department trophy for 2005. Fayetteville fire fighters raised a record $22,155 for MDA.


Compton Fire Heats It Up

Compton, CA Local 2216 raised nearly $12,000 through its three-day Fill-the-Boot campaign in June.


Way to Go Redwood City!

Redwood City fire fighters (members of San Mateo County, CA Local 2400) took to the streets July 7, raising more than $6,740 for MDA.


Detroit Local Kicks Off Boot Drive

Detroit, MI Local 344 Vice President Verdine Pierce, battalion chiefs, fire personnel and the Detroit fire commissioner join MDA Detroit Goodwill Ambassador Matthew Looney and his brother, Anthony, to officially kick off the 2006 Fill-the-Boot campaign in Detroit. Approximately 44 fire stations will participate in this year’s boot drive.


Akron Fire Fighters Praised for MDA Support

Fredericton Member Sits In Bucket for MDC

Fredericton, NB Local 1053 fire fighter Todd Nichol sat in a Snorkel "Bucket" on top of a ladder for 72 hours to raise more than $13,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC).


Congratulations Tulsa Fire Fighters!

Tulsa, OK Local 176 collected a record-setting $127,346 during its annual Fill-the-Boot drive this year. Local 176 President Dennis Moseby and Deputy Chief David Dayringer kicked off the 2006 Fill-the-Boot drive by dropping the first dollars into the boot.


Nevada Local Hosts Pancake Breakfast


Elko, NV Local 2423 organized its First Pancake Breakfast to help send children to MDA Summer Camp. The event was held at Elko Fire Station 1 and raised close to $900. In addition to the breakfast event, Elko fire fighters have a tradition of conducting a Fill-the-Boot campaign every year.


Santa Rosa Members Conduct Street Side Campaign

Fire fighters from Santa Rosa, CA Local 1401 raised more than $3,880 on May 24, 2006, during their street side campaign for MDA. Sparky the Fire Dog also filled his boot with donations from passing motorists.


Santa Cruz County Responds to MDA Cause

Fire fighters from Santa Cruz County, CA Local 3605 filled their boots for MDA May 19-21, 2006, weathering sunshine and rain to collect money to help change the lives of nearly 500 MDA families in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Monterey and San Benito counties. MDA funds research in pursuit of treatments and cures, pays for clinics and helps send children to MDA summer camps.


Houston Fire Fighters Raise $100,000

Houston, TX Local 341 participated in the annual MDA Citgo Golf Tournament held at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas. The event raised more than $100,000 for MDA. Massachusetts Fire Fighters Bowl-A-Thon

Duxbury, MA Local 2167 fire fighters joined by friends, family and members of the Kingston, MA Local 2337 raised more than $500 for MDA at the 3rd Annual Bowl-A-Thon. Each member bowled three strings, and knocked down more than 2,100 pins in their fight against Muscular Dystrophy.


El Paso Spring Boot Drive

El Paso, TX Local 51 collected $15,600 during the 2006 spring break Fill-the-Boot drive.


Ashland Fire Fighters Breakfast

Ashland, KY Local 706 fire fighters organized an MDA Pancake Breakfast on March 4, 2006, raising more than $1,300 for Jerry’s Kids.


Kentucky Members Kick-off 2006 MDA Campaign

Williamsport, PA Local 736 members with MDA Goodwill Ambassador Carlee Weber and Santa Claus at a Christmas party held for Weber. Local 736 members and their families were invited to participate in the event and enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner.
