Deadline for Fire Station Construction Grant Applications Is July 10

June 10, 2009 – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction grant application period will end at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on July 10, 2009. Fire Station Construction grants will provide funding directly to fire departments on a competitive basis to build new or modify existing fire stations in order to enhance response capabilities and better protect communities from fire and fire-related hazards. The Fire Station Construction grants were derived from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Congress appropriated a total of $210 million for Fiscal Year 2009 for this program.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program Office will use the established grant process employed for all other grant opportunities with AFG. The program is administered by the DHS Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate in coordination with the U.S. Fire Administration by the AFG program Office.

During the application period, the help desk will operate Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time). The help desk will close at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, July 3 and re-open on Saturday, July 4. Applicants with questions regarding the Fire Station Construction Grants opportunity should contact the help desk at 1-866-274-0960 or at firegrants@dhs.gov.
