June 10, 2009 – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to
Firefighters Fire Station Construction grant application period will
end at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on July 10, 2009. Fire Station
Construction grants will provide funding directly to fire
departments on a competitive basis to build new or modify existing fire stations

from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Congress appropriated a
total of $210 million for Fiscal Year 2009 for this program.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program Office will use the
established grant process employed for all other grant opportunities with AFG.
The program is administered by the DHS Federal Emergency Management Agency's
(FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate in coordination with the U.S. Fire
Administration by the AFG program Office.
