significant changes to course design and delivery. The LCC is currently
accepting student applications for the 2010 session. Session dates are January

The IAFF will sponsor one participant for the upcoming four-week session
beginning January 3, 2010. The sponsorship covers the cost of tuition, plus
$1,000 for travel and incidental expenses. IAFF members in good standing will be
evaluated based on demonstrated active participation within their local as an
officer, committee member, etc. The winner will be notified following the
September 2009 Executive Board meeting.
The Labour College program consists of two weeks in a national residential
session in Ottawa, followed by a three-month interim in which students will
conduct a project in conjunction with their union. Students will then reconvene
for a final two-week, residential session. Intensive Program students are also
required to participate in a week-long labour law course in a regional CLC
school as part of their Labour College Certificate.
Please note that the application process has changed. Applicants are now
required to apply directly to the CLC and are assessed according to the
following criteria:
• A history of active engagement in the union and the community.
• Considerable experience in union education.
• The ability to think and write in a logical and coherent manner as evidenced
by two short essays.
• Commitment to using experience at the College within the union and the
community.
• Basic computer skills.
