Lorain Local 267 Member Andy Drwal Elected to City Council
May 6, 2009 – Andy Drwal, a member of Lorain, OH Local 267and Second
District Vice President of the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters,
defeated incumbent City Councilman Dennis Flores for a seat on the Lorain City
Council, representing the Second Ward. Drwal defeated Flores by a vote of 225 to
194 in the May 5 primary, according to unofficial results from the Lorain County
Board of Elections.
With no opponent in sight for the November general election, Drwal is virtually
assured a seat on the council next year.
Drwal, who attended the IAFF Political Training Academy earlier this year, says,
“I’m just elated that the voters in the Second Ward found it fit to put me in
the office. I’m excited about trying to get the city to move forward. It will be
a long, hard task but I’m more than willing to do anything I can to get this
city up and running.”
IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger says, “Our Political Training Academy
is a learning tool for any member who wants to run for office. Andy has been a
member of the IAFF for a long time and has served our union proudly. I am
excited for his win and I wish him the best of luck as he begins his two-year
term next year.”
