IAFF Conferences Hit Record Numbers

February 1, 2008 -- IAFF affiliate leaders from across the United States and Canada met in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the Ernest A. “Buddy” Mass Human Relations Conference and the Affiliate Leadership Training Summit (ALTS). Held back-to-back for the first time January 20-25, 2008, both conferences drew record numbers of attendees – 916 at ALTS and 400 at the Human Relations Conference, including 257 members who attended both events.

ALTS registration was 30 percent more than in 2007 and the Human Relations Conference registration nearly doubled from the last Conference in 2006.

Both events offered a wide selection of workshops, as well as ample networking opportunities. This year’s Human Relations Conference included new workshops on diversity, managing risk and making sound decisions, while ALTS featured new classes on contract language, ethics and advanced leadership skills.

In addition, delegates at the Human Relations Conference elected three new members to the IAFF Elected Human Relations Committee: David B. Bautista (Orange County, CA Local 3631), Joel Sato (San Francisco, CA Local 798) and Richard Gomez (Houston, TX Local 341).

The Affiliate Leadership Training Summit will be offered again December 7-9, 2008, in Phoenix, Arizona.
